‘Sand plan’, no thanks

THANKS to the SGST for a more insightful discussion of our beach erosion issue than was shouted at the beach protest after New Year (Inverloch Surf Club ‘too close’ to natural hazard zone, 29/1).

The reassurance oozing from MP Jordan Crugnale’s circular, letterboxed around Inverloch this week, that the government’s ‘sand plan’ is the way to go is totally undermined by the comment from a state government spokeswoman in The Age on Australia Day: “The government does not expect private dwellings to be at risk in the next few decades”!

Given the speed at which climate impacts are evolving, the insurance industry knows that sort of myopia is just what we don’t need to counter both knee-jerk reactions and climate denial.
