I AM writing to respond to the letter in the November 26 paper, titled “Not the place for religious dialogue”, from Dilene Hinton.
It broke my heart to read Dilene’s letter regarding her experience with the Catholic Church. It was very sad and I fully understand her decision to have nothing more to do with the Church.
However, that is not everyone’s experience, for example, I have been blessed that my experience of the Church has been very positive. In the Catholic Church I met Jesus and a community of wonderful people who are my friends. My experience is shared by many, as I suppose is Dilene’s.
Regarding the place of religion in our local paper, all I can say is that it is a community paper and so reflects the diversity of the community, including our different experiences and opinions regarding religion. Christians form a large part of our community and so you would expect that the Christian viewpoint would be found in our local paper, along with many other different viewpoints.
Thanks to the Sentinel-Times for the “Faith Factor” column and thanks to the authors who share their thoughts, even when they are challenging.
