Stop with the signage

I LIVE in the Monash Electorate and have been dismayed at what seems to be deliberate breaches of law by the Teals – Deb Leonard campaign for the Federal seat of Monash.

People in my area are angry that signs have been plastered all over our area between Foster and Hedley. I am sure that other areas in Monash are copping the same treatment.

It seems locals have already pulled some signs down in disgust e.g. outside Toora Post Office on Council land. Two are outside Welshpool school. Others are bolted into the trunks of trees.

Being a person with knowledge of the law, I would assume that Deb Leonard would know this is a breach of local and state laws. I can find no evidence that she has gained any permits for these signs which are bolted to anything that looks like a good spot on public land in Toora, and on South Gippsland Highway between Hedley and Foster.

I have sent details and photos to South Gippsland Shire and VicRoads and contacted the Australian Electoral Commission.

A search of her website reveals that Deb Leonard is a Teal, although she is reluctant to say so.

Having received almost $400,000 dollars from Climate Australia, she spins the line that she is independent of Simon Holmes à Court and Climate 200? Pull the other leg Deb. They don’t give $400k to anyone who wants money. They expect a return, and you know it.

You are a teal.

Dan Hopkins, Hedley

Editor’s Note: South Gippsland Shire Council have confirmed they have removed one campaign sign from Council land this election period but did not state who the sign belonged to. Furthermore, a spokesperson for the Department of Transport and Planning stated on Friday, “We’re aware of the signage in the road reserve along the South Gippsland highway between Foster and Hedley and have requested it be removed.” The department did not confirm who the signage related to.
