RECENTLY, I had a health issue necessitating attendance at the Emergency Department of Bass Coast Hospital, Wonthaggi. My symptoms worsened whilst waiting and after thorough tests and consultation I was placed on a mobile intravenous antibiotic.
I was asked if I was prepared to have treatment from Hospital in the Home (HITH), a service of which I was unaware previously. I accepted and was discharged with the mobile drip and subsequently treated daily, at home, by a HITH nurse.
I would like to express my appreciation to the staff of the departments who displayed care and understanding of my condition. As a result of this service, I am now on the mend.
Why am I telling you this? If not for HITH I would have taken up a bed at the hospital preventing a patient with greater need from being admitted.
