Phillip Island Helicopters call time on iconic service...

2 min read
For special occasions or just for the thrill of it... Phillip Island Helicopters was a popular choice.

...but stay tuned for a possible revival!

ICONIC Phillip Island tourism business and a regular feature in the skies above its beautiful sights, Phillip Island Helicopters, has closed “permanently”.

The operators of the business made the announcement on social media on Thursday, June 20 that their usual winter recess would become permanent.

“As we close the doors to our business, we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to all our patrons who have experienced Phillip Island with us from above, for the past 19 years,” they said.

However, while doing some clean-up work at the Phillip Island Airport site on Friday, chief pilot Ian Batton left the door ajar for a possible revival.

"The leasing arrangements were just getting a bit hard and a few other things and it was just the right time," said Mr Batton on Friday.

"But there may be someone coming in to takeover," he said.

However, for now, the present incarnation of Phillip Island Helicopters is no more.

The announcement has been greeted with an avalanche of support and regret. on social media, including the following:

  • This is so sad. Thank you for all the flights I have enjoyed over the years. I wish you all well.
  • Devastating loss for the Island. Very sorry to see you go. Can anything be done to save the business (if you want to stay operating)?
  • One of the few helicopter rides I have been on. Phillip Island was the most majestic and beautiful place. A sad loss to tourism for Phillip Island! We wish you all the best.
  • You guys have been such a staple of the Island for so long, gonna be strange not seeing that iconic red helicopter cruising around the skies.

As well as being favoured by sightseers, especially those with only a brief amount of time to see what the Island has to offer, it was also popular for special occasions including weddings, proposals, birthdays, anniversaries and the rest.

Many people gave helicopter flights at Phillip Island as gifts.

The operators have undertaken to refund all gift vouchers.

“The decision to close our doors has been a difficult one. We understand that there will be many customers who will be affected.

“For those who have purchased and hold valid Gift Vouchers we will be processing full refunds, and you can expect us to be in contact very shortly.

“If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team via email info@pih.com.au

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding during this transition. We are deeply grateful to all our customers for their support over the years.

“We ask for your patience and understanding whilst we work though this difficult process. Thankyou.”

And a big thank you to Phillip Island Helicopters for providing a fantastic, multi award-winning attraction that did a lot to expand the visitor experience on the Island.

Romance in the air and on the ground, and all part of the service at Phillip Island Helicopters.
