Squeaky Beach success a boost for Gippsland, they say

2 min read

THE peak body for tourism promotion in this region, Destination Gippsland, has, predictably, jumped on the back of Squeaky Beach’s success to lead up its push into autumn.

But don’t stop at the Prom, they say, Gippsland has a lot going for it!

“The number 1 beach in Australia, according to Tourism Australia’s annual Top 10 beach list, is Squeaky Beach, located within the wondrous Wilsons Promontory National Park,” starts Destination Gippsland in its latest online promo, going out to thousands of recipients, including all of Australia’s media and many news services overseas.

“The turquoise waters, squeaky-clean sand, orange boulders. Perfect!

“As the leaves on deciduous trees start to give us a hint of colour, we are reminded that a smorgasboard of autumn events are coming our way. We’re so excited for West Gippsland Railtowns Food & Wine Festival (March 3, Garfield) featuring Gippsland-centric produce, and the smooth sounds of the Boolarra Folk Festival (March 2). After two years, we’re pumped to welcome back the ANZAC Weekend Airshow (April 27 & 28), bringing with it a palpable energy to Sale.”

And there’s also Yarram’s tilt at the Australian Street Art Awards with its becoming-famous Heesco Town Water Tower Mural.”

Switching back to Squeaky Beach, they say…

“Don’t forget your sunnies… the high squint-factor is totally worth it for the crystal-clear waters lapping on the snow-white sand at this hidden-away beach.

“Walk for a couple of minutes from the car park along the track winding through coastal scrub, suddenly opening up to reveal this picture-perfect beach. It is like something out of a dream, or a 90s Leo DiCaprio film about getting lost on a magical island.

“The sand literally squeaks as you wander along this pristine beach. The beach is framed by weathered granite boulders, with a trickling stream that twists playfully between them.

“Explore walking tracks including Tidal River to Squeaky Beach Walk and Loo-Ern Walking Track.

“This is a popular spot for confident swimmers and surfers, but even on a busy day the expansive beach doesn’t feel crowded.

“Bring your underwater camera, for this is the perfect spot to try out a new lens, the water clarity is truly unique.
