THE winner of the election in the local state seat of Bass was expected to be revealed today, Wednesday, December 7 with the Victorian Electoral Commission scheduling a full distribution of preferences.
This will now occur on Thursday.
But with Labor’s Jordan Crugnale leading by 211 votes the full recount is expected to officially confirm that she has won the election here.
In the neighbouring seat of Pakenham, Labor’s Emma Vulin has emerged as a come-from-behind chance to win, according to the ABC Live Election website.
“A full preference distribution to determine the winner will take place (in Pakenham) on Wednesday. The current Liberal lead in Pakenham is under 100 votes and could be reversed once prefernces are distributed,” said the ABC’s political analyst Anthony Green.
“In the re-check count of first preferences, an extra 230 informal votes were found, and the Liberal tally fell by 274 votes while Labor rose by 111 votes. These corrections are not reflected in the current preference count.
“If these changes flow through in the preference distribution, then Emma Vulin will win Pakenham for Labor unless there is some other error in the current preference count,” according to the ABC.
At present, David Farrelly leads by 90 votes.
If both Jordan Crugnale and Emma Vulin win their neighbouring seats and, as expected, Labor’s Nathan Lambert takes Preston, the Andrews’ Government will increase its majority to 56 seats; one more than it held after the ‘Danslide’ of 2018.
