Bushfire reported in Wonthaggi wetlands close to town

TEN fire trucks have responded to a ‘small’ bushfire in the Wonthaggi Wetland Reserve at 3pm today, Thursday, February 13, a Total Fire Ban day in the Central region of the state, including Bass Coast.

The fire is located behind the Wonthaggi Plaza, deep in the bush opposite the Wonthaggi Pony Club site and is reportedly “not yet under control”.

Smoke is visible in the air, being dispersed by strong north-north-west wind.

  • There is a grassfire at Graham Street, Wonthaggi Wetlands.
  • Smoke may be visible from nearby communities and roads. 
  • Firefighters are responding to this fire. 
There is no immediate threat to the community and no action is required.
