Discover how to reduce household waste at the 'Living Lightly' workshop

THE Garden Group of the Wonthaggi Men's Shed will be hosting the first of this year's Living Lightly free workshops at 10am on Sunday, February 23, funded by the Bass Coast Shire Council.

Harriet Pellizer will be teaching the group about using and avoiding leftovers. The session will cover the impact food waste has on the environment and household finances.

Participants will learn different ways to make the most of leftovers and reduce household food waste.

Harriet is passionate about low waste living, with a deep connection to both South Gippsland and Melbourne. With 25 years of experience in the hospitality and food industry, she previously owned and operated three businesses in Melbourne before moving to South Gippsland.

As a Trainer with Bass Coast Adult Learning, Harriet is involved with several community-based projects. Outside of BCAL, she loves gardening, cooking, life on her farm, craft, and sharing stories, believing that these simple, creative activities foster personal well-being, strengthen communities, and bring joy.

Garden Coordinator Jessica Harrison said participants can also have a guided tour of the thriving Community Garden surrounding the Wonthaggi Men's Shed and learn about their low waste activities.

“We are happy to host the first of a series of free ‘Living Lightly’ workshops at the garden,” said Jessica. “We are passionate about reducing waste and looking forward to learning more.”
