Earthquake shakes rural tranquility north of Meeniyan again

THE Tarwin Fault Line north of Meeniyan has produced another earthquake, this time it was a 2.9 magnitude quake at a depth of 9km north of Meeniyan.

It follows another more serious quake on Friday, February 9, at at 12.49am, this year which shook the area more violently.

This time, while 60 people reported feeling the shake, it wasn’t as widely felt as the last one.

Geoscience Australia listed the earthquake as happening in ‘Leongatha’ but few people in Leongatha reported any disturbance.

The quake happened just after 8pm tonight, Saturday, May 5.
