Knock off drinks? Knock off safely. Don’t drink and drive

1 min read

DATA shows December is the worst month of the year for drink drive offending, recording the highest number of drink driving detections and most collisions where the driver was over the blood alcohol limit.

This December motorists are being warned they should expect to be tested anywhere, any time and to separate drinking and driving by planning ahead, arranging a designated driver or using alternative transport.

Bass Coast and South Gippsland Police will be out and about in force over the festive period particularly this Friday, December 20, as trades knock off for their extended holiday break.

“There will be zero tolerance for driving under the influence or driving impaired,” Bass Coast Police Sergeant Ryan Burns stated.

“Motorists can expect to be tested anywhere, any time this festive season, with additional police resources heading our way to assist with Operation Knock Off.”

Local police are keen to see everybody return safely home to their families or to their holiday destination this year and into the next.

So before you jump behind the wheel after knocking off this Friday, call a mate, call a partner, or sleep it off, and don’t risk it this festive season.

Gotcha

THREE unsuspecting drivers were caught out over the weekend drink driving.

A 64-year-old male and 73-year-old female both from Cape Woolamai, and a 73-year-old male from Venus Bay were issued an infringement notice and have had their licence cancelled and disqualified to appear at Korumburra Magistrates Court at a later date. All three believed they were under the limit.

Two other drivers tested positive to drugs during the three-day booze bus blitz.
