Korumburra Working Horse and Tractor Rally celebrates 35 years this weekend

2 min read

THE Korumburra Working Horse and Tractor Rally will be celebrating 35 years as an annual vintage machinery show once again this weekend, with more to see and do than ever before.

An array of children’s activities will keep the kids entertained with mini golf, cute baby animals to cuddle thanks to Barnyard Babies, horse and carriage rides with the Heritage Horse group, and wagon rides pulled by a 1914 Titan tractor, all for free.

The crowd favourites that will delight everyone in the family, are the Tractor Pull which will run all weekend, as well as the vintage machinery, car, trucks, tractors and engines display, which will include an army tank.

Attendees can step back in time with the Medieval Society who will perform reenactments and displays and witness the art of blacksmithing with Wandin Blacksmithing, learn about sheep shearing and husbandry with Chloe the Shearer or marvel at the woodchopping displays by champion woodchopping athletes.

The Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club (AMOC) are also celebrating 100 years in the agricultural and earthmoving industry and for those who love earthmoving equipment, a special ‘Hulk’ will be on display from AMOC.

A new addition this year that foodies and history buffs will also love, is the farm to plate demonstration using locally grown oats.

The idea is based around the time when farmers were out working in the paddocks harvesting the crops, and someone would come out and cook meals for them, for the day.

“We actually grew the oat at my property, and the members came out and we did it old style with early 1900s equipment; harvested the oats and then we’re going to be baling up oats and we’re also going to have a mill to make flour there as well,” explained Kate Pocklington, Secretary of the Show.

“There will be someone there doing a chef display, and they’ll be doing 1920s style cooking, cooking on a campfire, with the challenges of that and using old equipment.

“Members spent all year trying to get the equipment going and running for the day. It poses a few challenges, but we’re super excited about it this year.”

A whole selection of food trucks and coffee vans will also be at the event, as well as the biggest bush market yet, with 40 different stalls offering clothing, art, food, plants, pet/horse supplies, candles, natural skin products, soaps, gin, lollies, mancave decorations, airbrush tattoos, vintage machinery books/manuals and more.

Displays will be running all day and there will be lots to see and do for the whole family.

“This year marks a very special anniversary for us and we’re so excited to not only host our biggest event yet to celebrate this milestone, but our members also really enjoy the opportunity to share with the community our rich agricultural history in action,” stated Kate.

The Korumburra Working Horse and Tractor Rally will be held on Saturday and Sunday, March 15 and 16 from 10am-3pm both days, at 5875 South Gippsland Highway, Nyora.

Tickets are available at the gate: $10 for adults. Children under 16 are free. Dogs are not permitted.
