Market’s new home a hit

1 min read

THE new railway precinct home for the Leongatha Community Market was hailed as a huge success as crowds flocked on Sunday March 17.

The market had previously been located at the grounds of the old Leongatha Primary School, and was held on Saturdays, with the new location next to the former railway station attracting more stallholders and shoppers.

Market president Neil Barrett highlighted while the former location made for a ‘lovely’ market, it was hidden away.

“We would average 15-17 stores and we’ve doubled that, and we’ve got a huge waiting list,” he said.

“Next month it’ll be even bigger.”

Neil highlighted they had long had their eye on the spot, but many things needed to happen first such as the recent works to the carpark and surrounding railway site.

“We’ve had more arrive in the first two hours then we had at the entire (former) market,” he said.

He also noted that holding the market on a Sunday added to its appeal.

And to top it all off, the stunning, large scale mural just behind the railway precinct was in full view for all to enjoy.
