DAYS after Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien stepped to the helm as Leader of the Nationals, the Victorian Liberals and Nationals have announced the appointment of Member for Eastern Victoria, Melina Bath, to the Shadow Cabinet.
Ms Bath has represented The Nationals as the Member for Eastern Victoria Region since 2015 and has been a strong advocate for her local community.
Melina will take responsibility for Aboriginal Affairs, Local Government and Regional Development, previously in Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh's portfolio, who told the ABC earlier this week that he would not recontest his seat at the next state election in 2026, after stepping down as Leader of The Nationals.
“For the best part of a decade, Melina has been a fierce advocate for her community and made a strong contribution in the Parliament,” Leader of the Opposition, John Pesutto, said this afternoon.
“I look forward to working with Melina and the rest of our team towards giving Victorians the fresh start they need in November 2026.”
Newly appointed Leader of The Nationals, Danny O’Brien, added: “Melina Bath is a champion of her local community who is more than deserving of stepping into Shadow Cabinet."
“This is a fitting reward for Melina, who has been a member of our team for almost 10 years," Mr O'Brien said.
“Melina will continue to fight for regional Victorians as Shadow Minister for Regional Development, as well as taking the helm of two other key portfolios.
“I congratulate Melina and look forward to continuing our close working relationship.”
Ms Bath said she was “delighted and honoured” to join the Shadow Cabinet.
“I am ready to serve Victorians,” Ms Bath said.
