Mirboo North Tigers launch $30,000 appeal on Gofundme

WANNA do something to help Mirboo North?

Jump on the ‘MNFNC Recovery’ page on Gofundme, look for Tigers’ President Joe Piper’s name, and donate to their recovery effort.

They’re looking for donations totally $30,000 to get some new goal posts after the devastating storm of last Tuesday but they’ve also lost the netting behind the goals, the netball fence and copped extensive damage to the equipment stored inside the A&P Shed which was totalled in the blast.

But they’re not sitting back waiting for a handout.

The club has cancelled footy and netball training this week but instead will be forming up teams of players to tackle a list of clean-up jobs that need doing around the town.

“They’ll be getting their exercise this week by doing something physical to help the community,” said MNFNC Committee member Stacey Harriage.

But there are some things you can’t fix with a chainsaw and muscle, including the supply of new goal posts, snapped off at the heigh of the ferocious storm blast, hence the crowd-funding appeal.

Here’s what Joe Piper had to say on the Gofundme page:

“The MNFNC has been severely impacted by the storms that tore through our beautiful town. The goal posts at both ends of the ground have been snapped in half with the ferocity. Fences have been torn down, buildings have been damaged. It will take time to recover.

“We have started a Gofundme aiming to get help to replace the goal posts, netting and fences so that we can have a pre-season.

“Plans beyond that are unknown. Most of our members are busy repairing their homes, businesses and taking care of their community.

“We are proud to live in a community like Mirboo North. Everyone bands together in times of crisis.”

So, get on to the ’MNFNC Recovery’ page and make a donation today to help the Tigers roar again.

Incidentally, Stacey Harriage’s home is located on Wells Road, up behind the swimming pool, and was among the hardest hit on the day.

“We’ve got broken windows, water has come into the house and it’s going to take a lot of work to get our 2 acre block looking nice again. But we had CFA people from Drouin and Warragul call in today to see if we needed help, which was fantastic,” said Stacey.

“The emphasis is on the clean up now but there’s a lot of recovery ahead for Mirboo North.”
