Newhaven College back to school

2 min read

NEWHAVEN College was abuzz with students returning to school over Thursday and Friday. Teachers and support staff commenced early to partake in three days of collaborating, professional learning sessions and planning for the year ahead. Everyone was ready and excited to welcome students back to campus.

The greatest excitement was the arrival of the 2024 Preps, with a welcome parade, greeting every Junior School student with a fist bump, handshake, or wave. Although there were some nerves amongst the College’s youngest students, they all settled in very quickly.

New Year 7 students enjoyed meeting their teachers, connecting with new friends, and exploring their new school environment. Year 5 students were excited to spend their first day in middle school and quickly settled into their classrooms.

The 2024 Year 9s have strapped on their hiking boots and pulled on their ranger-style uniforms ready for a year of adventure at the special Year 9 Environmental Centre. Everyone is looking forward to hearing about their escapades over the coming year.

A special Forum Day was held for the 2024 Year 12 cohort. Designed to prepare students for their last year of school, the specialised program forms the basis for a successful year. Educational consultant Ben Taylor from the English lab presented ‘Making Study & Revision your Superpower’ - a workshop on how to improve learning practices. Students enjoyed a delicious lunch in the college pavilion, followed by a house focused pastoral care activity with Year 7 students, including sharing stories and walking around campus. Year 12 can be daunting, but Newhaven College staff provide excellent support and pastoral care throughout the year so students can achieve their best outcomes.

The College grounds have had a facelift over the summer break, with the Newhaven College grounds and maintenance crew working on cleaning and staining decks and facades and refreshing the gardens. The school campus has never looked so good.

College Principal, Tony Corr welcomes those new to the College community including 11 new and returning staff. The new staff and teachers truly represent the broad range of employment opportunities provided by Newhaven College.

To top off the week, College leaders and staff welcomed parents and guardians with drinks and canapes on Friday evening, providing the perfect opportunity to show off the new performing arts wing. This provided an excellent opportunity for connection in a relaxed atmosphere.
