Newhaven College Back to School

2 min read

NEWHAVEN College came back to life as students returned to school on Friday and Monday. Teachers and support staff commenced early to partake in three days of collaborating, professional learning sessions and planning for the year ahead. Everyone was ready and excited to welcome students back to campus.

The greatest excitement was the arrival of the 2025 Preps on Monday, with a welcome parade, greeting every Junior School student with a fist bump, handshake or wave. Although there were some nerves amongst the College’s youngest students, they all settled in very quickly.

New Year 7 students enjoyed meeting their teachers, connecting with new friends, and exploring their new school environment. Year 5 students were excited to spend their first day in Middle School and quickly settled into their classrooms.

The 2025 Year 9s pulled on their hiking boots and donned their ranger-style uniforms ready for a year of adventure at the special Year 9 Environmental Centre. Everyone is looking forward to hearing about their escapades over the coming year.

A special Forum Day was held for the 2025 Year 12 cohort. Designed to prepare students for their last year of school, the specialised program forms the basis for a successful year. Students attended workshops on improving learning practices and enjoyed a delicious lunch in the College Pavilion, followed by a House focused pastoral care activity with Year 7 students. Year 12 can be daunting, but Newhaven College staff provide excellent support and pastoral care throughout the year so students can achieve their best outcomes.

The College grounds have had a facelift over the summer break, with the Newhaven College Grounds and Maintenance crew working on new play areas, replanting some of the gardens plus new car parking near the gym and Senior School. The school campus has never looked so good.

College Principal, Tony Corr welcomes everyone to the College community, “Newhaven College is thrilled to be welcoming students back to school for an exciting 2025. We are especially pleased to be welcoming more than 100 new students, 16 new and returning staff to our school.

“We have a busy start to the year planned with our first full school assembly, the commencement of weekly SEISA sport and Parent Welcome Drinks in the first week. Camps will also run in Junior, Middle and Senior Schools in Term 1. Preparation is also well underway for a number of school events throughout the year including our school production, Xanadu, early in Term two, plus our student trip to Borneo in the middle of the year.”

The group of 16 new staff and teachers truly represents the broad range of employment opportunities provided by Newhaven College. The new staff cohort includes  Annie Brewin (Learning Support), Andre Hetebrueg (Teacher), Tony Corr (Principal), Zach Walker (AFL SportsReady Trainee), Carel Fourie (Teacher), James Ryan (Music Teacher), Tove Chadwick (Teacher), Rebecca Burgan (Teacher), Ryan Gingell (Teacher), Casey Bartlett (Nurse), Gayle Roberts (Teacher), Elyse Jamieson (Learning Support), Nala Taylor (Learning Support), Kim Northover (Teacher), Danae Ziolkowski (Learning Support), Aisling Fagan (Teacher), and Samuel Armer (IMT).
