WELL it’s game on here at Leongatha with the Parrots’ 34-game winning streak very much on the line against the visiting Moe side.
An inaccurate Leongatha has been unable to hit the side of the barn to half time with both of their leading forwards Jack Ginnane and Jenson Garnham both missing shots from close range, and otherwise well held by their opponents.
But, in an immediate payoff for the recruiting of former Western Bulldogs player Billy Gowers, it was Gowers who kicked the team’s first goal when he edged out Steve Forrester in a marking duel, hit the ground running and nailed it from close range.
His next was a classy finish from the boundary at the start of the second quarter and there was another later in the term as Moe got it out to an 18-point lead by half time
Half time scores: Moe 6.2.38 to Leongatha 1.12.18.
Update: Moe went on to record a well earned victory to open up a three-way or four-way go for the premiership between Leongatha, Traralgon and Moe equal on top with six wins from seven games, and Wonthaggi a close fourth on five wins Sale, Maffra and the rest are already apparently out of the running.
