Phillip Island welcomes season’s first cruise ship

1 min read

THE Regent shipping lines’ Seven Seas Mariner cruise ship has cruised into Western Port this morning, Thursday, December 1.

Not to be confused with the potentially COVID-infested Grand Princess cruise ship, which has docked at Melbourne’s Station Pier, there have been no reports of particular pandemic issues on the Seven Seas.

In fact, the Bass Coast Shire Council has rolled out the red carpet on its website with a warm welcome message.

“We welcome the Seven Seas Mariner Cruise Ship and her passengers as they arrive at Rhyll to explore Phillip Island for the day.”

The ship will start embarking guests this morning, set for tours around Phillip Island, keen to see koalas and the Island’s wildlife.

And the Island is turning on the nice weather with fine, sunny conditions over the next few days.

Phillip Island has a busy Cruise Ship Schedule over the next year as cruising goes full steam ahead after COVID.

Here are some of the arrival dates:

  • December 1, 2022 at 7.15am
  • January 3, 2023 at 8.10am
  • February 4, 2023 at 9.11am
  • March 9, 2023 at 9.17am
  • December 10, 2023

Entering service in 2001 the Mariner carries up to 708 passengers in luxury and comfort. It was refurbished in April 2018. The vessel is still in impeccable condition. The style of the ship is classic and sophisticated, boasting the highest staff-to-guest ratio in the industry.

The wide choices of public rooms, lounges and clubs allow for an un-crowded feel.

The atrium is the social centre of the ship with a cozily furnished Coffee Connections.

Entertainment includes Broadway-style productions, headline artists, the ship’s orchestra, and remarkably informative destination-specific lectures directed to intelligent passengers. Typically passengers appear to be 40+, affluent, and quite well travelled.
