PREVIEW: Wow what a show of orchids at Wonthaggi!

IT WILL definitely have the wow factor when the 34th annual orchid show opens in the Wonthaggi Workmen’s Club on Friday morning this week, September 13 at 9.30am if the magnificent plants that have already arrived are any indication.

The show continues on from 9.30am on Saturday, September 14 as well.

"Absolutely delighted," said show marshall Julie Kilgower on Thursday afternoon, still with a mountain of work ahead of the committee of the South Gippsland Orchid Society as tthe entries continue to roll in at the back door of the Workmen's Club.

"It must be a good year for orchids, just look at them," she said.

The room was already positively groaning with the number, quality and variety of the orchids on show. It's the perfect place for enthusiasts and even the uninitiated lovers of these magnificent plants to see dozens of varieties in all their glory and take the opportunity to buy some orchids of their own, pick up orchid supplies, watch some of the potting demonstrations and generally talk orchids.

"As you can see, it's going to be a full house. Great support again," Mrs Kilgower said.

The show will be open from 9.30am to 4.30pm on Friday, September 13 but please note, open from 9.30am to 4pm on Saturday, September 14 so don't be late.

A visit to the show is an absolute must for any self-respecting gardener and flower lover (and a nice distraction from a big weekend of sport)!

Multi-award winning flower grower Lita Gill of Wonthaggi, with her daughter Belinda helping out, arrives with some of the orchids she has on display at the Wonthaggi Workmen's Club on Friday and Saturday, September 13 and 14.
