RETURNING bigger and better than ever the Bass Coast Wonthaggi Show has plenty to offer holidaymakers and visitors to the region this Saturday!

Thousands are expected through the gates at the Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve for a spectacular line-up of events and attractions from 9am onwards on Saturday, January 4.

Farm and garden produce will be on display along with beautiful needlecraft. A trophy, $50 cash prize and rosette will be awarded for the judge’s choice ‘overall’ in memory of Margaret Rixon, whilst the needlecraft section includes a ‘judge's choice’ in memory of Judy Conn.

Collections of homegrown garden vegetables and fruit will be displayed in bowls and baskets, and on plates and boards, alongside home produce and baked goods.

There are also categories for honey and honeycomb from a hive, local eggs, fresh herbs, veggies growing in a container and decorated saucers of foliage and flowers.

Decorated boots and decorated recycled items are always a crowd pleaser, alongside the children's classic sections.

Horse fanciers will be impressed by a full program of equestrian events, harness horses, Clydesdales and blacksmithing demonstrations including horseshoeing.

A highlight of the 2025 show will be the return of the flyball dog trials.

Flyball consists of a relay race between teams of dogs with each dog jumping over four hurdles, retrieving a ball by triggering a flyball box pedal then returning over the hurdles to the start line.

Flyball is pure fun for the dogs, handlers and spectators and any dog can enter regardless of breed, size, shape, or formal training.

The first team to have all four of their racing dogs complete a run wins the heat.

Paul Macphail and his much-prized Beloka working kelpies will also be back.

The Bass Coast Wonthaggi Best Beaut Ute and 4X4 Show is sure to attract plenty of interest as well as tractors and old-fashioned farm equipment.

Children’s artwork will also be on display.

Lots of fun for the whole family with live music, clowns, stilt walkers, carnival rides, showbags, fairy floss, sideshow alley and a wide variety of food and refreshments.

Children twelve years and under are admitted free and entry for adults and young adults aged thirteen and older remains at $5.

Entries for pavilion exhibits are free and accepted up to Thursday, January 2 with judging on Friday, January 3, entries for equestrian events are accepted on show day.

Circle the date on your calendar, Bass Coast Wonthaggi Show, Saturday January 4, 9am to 4pm at the Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve, Wentworth Road, North Wonthaggi.
