The prestigious Melbourne Cup visits Newhaven College

1 min read

NEWHAVEN College was thrilled to welcome Representatives from the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) and the prestigious Lexus Melbourne Cup on Friday, June 28. The Year 9 Environmental Centre and grounds provided the perfect venue to view the gleaming Lexus Melbourne Cup while being entertained by Mounted Games demonstrations.

Newhaven College’s very own Mounted Games competitor, Year 12 student Gabe Smith was one of the riders, along with other professional riders. Gabe, and his sister Giselle, have been selected to represent Australia in riding competitions to be held in Italy and France, including the World Individual Mounted Games Championship in La Scuderia, in July. The competitions will run simultaneously with the Paris Olympics.

During their visit to Newhaven College, the Cup and racing legend, and Lexus Melbourne Cup Ambassador Joe Agresta visited various parts of the school, stopping for a while in the Junior School. The young students were fascinated by the stories about the Melbourne Cup and were in awe of the beauty of the gleaming Cup.

The visit of the VRC representatives and the Lexus Melbourne Cup to Newhaven College Centre was more than just a display of a trophy. It was a day of cultural exchange, historical learning and community engagement, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended. The event not only highlighted the prestige of the Melbourne Cup but also highlighted the importance of connecting educational experiences with real world events.
