Victoria empowers local financial business literacy

2 min read

THE power of financial literacy inspired women in local business on Tuesday night.

Bass Coast Shire Council and Inverloch’s RACV Resort hosted She’s on the Money for Business with Victoria Devine, which was a sold-out event.

Victoria is a former financial advisor, business owner, podcaster, educator and author empowering people in business – with an emphasis on women – to reach their potential.

“There’s so much overwhelming information online about having to be super motivated, needing to do certain things and being a “boss girl”, when in reality there’s just a lot of systems and processes you could implement to be really successful,” Victoria said.

Victoria’s presentation included tips and tricks for small business owners, highlighting things that can be done for free before starting out and how to engage an audience to put the business in the best possible position to succeed.

Her advice begins with encouraging people to get out of their comfort zone.

“It’s just about really believing in yourself as opposed to assuming someone else is going to swoop in and give you the magic keys to the kingdom. Those don’t exist – we’ve got to create them ourselves,” she said.

Victoria speaks from experience, having launched She’s on the Money from humble beginnings.

“I was making my logos on Microsoft PowerPoint, and cutting and pasting them as images because I didn’t know how to do those things,” she said.

“I’ve gone from that to having a full-time graphic designer, but we all start somewhere, and I think it’s really important to share that journey.”

Victoria said the mentoring aspect of what she does is an important part of her journey.

“I’ve gone to a lot of different cities and states – I go where the demand is. I’m from Tasmania, so I love visiting small towns and I’m very excited to be here,” she said.

“It still gets overwhelming, but I feel so supported by the women who attend.”

Victoria said it was the power of being financially literate that led her to her choice of field, and loves providing others with the tools and resources needed to succeed.

Victoria believes financial freedom helps entire communities and has been active in helping to navigate ways to insert financial literacy into the school curriculum.
