Weather a blow for Saturday’s Mirboo North Market

1 min read

AS IF Mirboo North hasn’t suffered enough fallout from the weather this year but they’ve had to cancel what was expected to be a record market this Saturday, August 31.

Organisers expected to have 110 great stalls in Baromi Park on Saturday but they’ve decided to err on the side of caution, with more windy weather expected, not up to the 100km/h-plus we’ve had during the week, more likely a northwesterly around the 30km/h to 45 km/h being predicted by the Bureau of Meteorology.

Here’s the announcement from the Mirboo North Market committee:

“Due to the weather front system approaching this weekend, we have decided to cancel this month's market.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this decision, but we have a duty of care to both the public and our stallholders. This decision is not taken lightly and has been done so after consultation with stakeholders and the BOM themselves.

“We are outlooking wind gusts up to 22+ knots on Saturday and combined with forecast showers, there is a more than even chance the weather will make it unpleasant for everyone.

“We have had a remarkable run of luck with the market weather recently and were very much looking forward to a record number of stalls and a record Market Money lottery prize offering - but that will simply have to wait until September 28, when our next market kicks off and hopefully, we can all bask in some mild but warm end-of-September weather!

The Mirboo North Market is held on the last Saturday of every month.
