Youth unite for climate action

THE sound of live music was electric on Saturday afternoon, with Youki hosting a live music fundraiser, supported by FReeZa, School Strike 4 Climate, and Rising Tide.

Youth organisers Joey Thompson, Oliver Jobe and Indigo Aurora shared that the event was an absolute success. “We were able to raise over $800 to support young people and locals to attend the November 2024 Rising Tide Blockade of the Newcastle coal port,” said Indigo.

“This event was inspired by Rising Tide’s short documentary on the 2023 blockade, titled “The First Wave”. The film was incredibly moving and inspired me to create an event that would help people to support the cause, including those who may not be able to attend the blockade themselves.”

With support from FReeZA, the youth were able to work together to create both an effective fundraiser and an incredible day of performances from local young musicians!

“Youki’s Shed was absolutely the perfect place to host the event, with how lovely and supportive the owners are,” said Indigo. “The rest of South Gippsland’s School Strike 4 Climate Group and I are thrilled to learn we can run events like this to support such an important cause.”

The audience witnessed talent from some of Bass Coasts most talented and loved young bands, including WhyGoatsWhy, Foil, Zenith Paradox, Finn Farley and The Dropkicks – an all-ages event of live music, delicious food and storytelling.
