Breaking: Police arrest car thieves at Wonthaggi after major operation

BREAKING: Police have reportedly arrested three youths in relation to a stolen car and police operation, including police airwing, culminating the apprehension of the offenders in Wonthaggi this morning.

The incident has gone viral on social media with local residents and motorists reporting seeing the police helicopter circling in areas from Phillip Island to San Remo and Wonthaggi between 10am and 11am on Thursday morning, September 19.

These reports have included that police were looking for a stolen black Audi, allegedly taken from a private property on Phillip Island.

Police reportedly set up roadblock at the corner of McKenzie Street and Graham Street in Wonthaggi (Bass Highway) and deployed stop sticks at the intersection where they stopped the car and made the arrests.

A large number of police and police cars were involved.

Police are set to make a statement. More details as they come to hand.
