Event Format:
- Teams of 8-10 surfers (mixed teams)

- Approximately six teams will compete in 80-minute heats
- Each surfer has eight minutes to catch their best wave
- Captains and power surfers surf twice
- Rules follow the ABB -Boardriders Battle format
- The team with the highest heat tally wins

The winning team will take home a fantastic prize from Bang Bang with Woolamai Pizza also contributing significantly to ensure the event’s success.

The day will wrap up with a celebration of the season’s aggregate winners at the Phillip Island Winery, providing a chance for all members to come together and celebrate their achievements in this close-knit surfing community.

The tag team event is about more than just surfing - it promotes teamwork among younger members and more experienced surfers, creates lasting memories, and helps raise mental health awareness. Surfing provides an outlet for groms/adults to manage anxiety, stay active, and develop resilience, and the club is dedicated to fostering an environment where all surfers learn not just skills - but also kindness, teamwork, and self-confidence.

Jake Eisen, President of PIBC said the Bang Bang Shootout is the perfect way to kick off the season, bringing the community together, fostering competition, and focusing on what makes the club special - “our commitment to surfing, mental health, and each other. It’s also about teaching the kids to be kind to one another, supporting their teammates, and creating a positive atmosphere in and out of the water.”

Pat, owner of Bang Bang Restaurant and Bar stated “We’re thrilled to be supporting this event. Surfing is such a vital part of the island’s culture, and we love being part of something that encourages teamwork and fun for everyone involved.”

Eddie Maier, 10 years old PIBC Grom said of last tag team event “Last time I got an 8-point ride, and it made me really happy. I hope I can do it again and hopefully I’m on the same team as my dad.”

PIBC also offers weekly yoga classes for surfers and mental health - open to the general public, run by local island yogi Dominique Salerno (@dominiquesalernoyoga) at $10 for PIBC members and $15 for non-members.
