Corner Inlet’s Queen of the Ring

2 min read

BRAVO acclaimed South Gippsland Queen of the Ring, Jemima Geitz.

The elite female boxer from Corner Inlet has just nailed the biggest title of her career.

Competing in an all-female tournament at the Perth Town Hall, Jemima walked away with the biggest trophy of them all the coveted Queen of the Ring belt in the 48-kilogram weight division.

Fighting three bouts over three days Jemima won them all against W.A. fighter Kiara.

“I felt pretty chuffed,” said Jemina.

The first two fights in Perth going Jemina’s way her opponent had the option of fighting a third bout or not.

“She chose to fight on,” said Jemina.

Jemina won that bout as well.

“I felt pretty good. It was something I didn’t think I’d ever do.”

The mother of two young boys Jemina said her husband has been very supportive.

“The boys were pretty chuffed at mum’s medal.”

A formidable fighter Jemima maintains a punishing fitness regime.

Taking up boxing only two years ago to keep fit Jemina trains three days a week in Leongatha, twice a week in Foster and runs, or competes in boxing tournaments on weekends.

Claiming nine victories out of twelve fights Jemina Geitz is ranked as a boxing elite and is one of the few females to compete regularly at championship level overseas and interstate.

In addition to her Queen of the Ring title Jemima recently scored two wins in Singapore with the second bout against a well-favoured home-town opponent.

Next month Jemina heads to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra to compete at the elite Australian championships from November 20 to 23.

“It’s a mental as well as a physical game,” said Jemina.

Jemina trains regularly with ten young female boxers at the Corner Inlet Boxing Club gym in Foster, and five girls at Leongatha including sisters Mackenna and Kinesha Anderson.

Nineteen-year-old Kinesha is a twelve-fight veteran in amateur competition and has been training at the Leongatha gym with her younger sister since she was thirteen.

“Boxing is empowering for young women,” Kinesha and Jemina agree.

“Being able to protect yourself is a good skill to have,” said Jemina.

“Best fitness training I’ve ever done.”

The Corner Inlet Boxing Club hosts its annual boxing tournament at the Leongatha Memorial Hall on November 10.

Proudly sponsored by SportsPower, South Gippsland Concrete, South Gippsland Radiology and Engage Wealth Solutions, the Corner Inlet Boxing Club, doors open at 11am with the fights starting at midday.
