Flipping great fun at Outtrim

THE smell of pancakes and barista made coffee filled the air last Sunday morning at the Outtrim Hall as nearly 100 people came together for a Pan – Kick Breakfast. Dressed in their favourite footy colours, families from all over South Gippsland and Bass Coast including Outtrim, Leongatha, Leongatha South, Korumburra, Inverloch, Warragul, Wonthaggi and one family from Queensland enjoying the morning. Councillors Jenni Keerie and Nathan Hersey were welcome attendees as well as students from Kongwak Primary School.

Organised by the Outtrim Hall committee, guests were treated to pancakes fresh from the frypan. A gourmet selection of toppings was available including strawberries and cream, banana and Nutella and lemon curd made fresh that morning by a guest. Fleming Berries in Korumburra generously donated berries and a selection of jams for the event.

Sharon from ‘Coffees Up’ offered hot drinks, a perfect accompaniment for the spring morning.

Following the official welcome by hall committee member Ian Curry and organiser Ebony Knox, lucky door prizes were drawn. Outtrim local Brooke Elford took home the major prize, a $50 voucher at

The Middle Hotel in Korumburra. Other winners included Billy and Archie from Buffalo, Indie from Leongatha South, Evie from Berry’s Creek and Hugo from Loch.

Over on the cricket ground, it was a scene reminiscent of half time at the ‘G’. Children and grownups alike testing their skills using footy gear supplied by Leongatha Auskick. The thud of a football being kicked, the excitement of a youngster successfully hitting the handball target and happy squeals of excitement as dads ran to tackle their sons and daughters could be heard.

Perhaps more accurately it was a scene from the popular children’s TV show Bluey, where it’s the parents having more fun than the children! Some mums commented of the cathartic nature of kicking a ball in an open space, and thankful of the opportunity that the event provided.

Event organisers were pleased with the outcome of the morning, aimed at offering a friendly event suitable for all ages, a chance for the community to come together and an opportunity to showcase the facilities available at the reserve. With tennis courts, an oval, a playground, walking tracks through the bush reserve and hall available for hire, Outtrim is a place suitable for everyone including nature lovers, sporting enthusiasts, dog walkers and families with young children.

Outtrim Hall committee would like to thank local business who donated to the event and welcome the community to utilise the facilities available.
