Leongatha trio win a place in the state championships

1 min read

LEONGATHA lawn bowlers Nathan Lovie, John Hall and skip Anthony Collier (skip) have won a place in the State Champions Carnival in Bendigo from April 3.

Winning through the Southern Region play-offs Lovie, Hall and Collier faced a formidable Northern Region side in the Strzelecki region titles at Tarwin Lower.

Bowling at the Tarwin Lower and District Bowls Club Nathan Lovie (lead) was solid throughout the match with many of his bowls finishing close to the jack.

Bowling calmly and consistently as is his style John Hall (second) landed close bowls when they were needed.

Having enjoyed an armchair ride for most of the match Anthony Collier (skip) was able to provide the cream on the cake with some telling conversions at critical moments.

The match was played in relatively calm conditions with players enjoying pristine conditions offered up on Tarwin Lower’s new synthetic surface.

The men from Leongatha won the day and a ticket to the Bendigo State Championships.

Each of Victoria’s 16 regions will be represented at Bowls Victoria State Champions Week which will be held at the East Bendigo Bowls Club from April 3 to 11.

State champions go through to the 2025 Australian Championships at the Devonport Country Club in Tasmania from November 24 to 27.

“We dare to dream,” said skip Anthony Collier.
