Tough and tight and blowing a gale at Bairnsdale

1 min read

THERE was eight points between the sides, Wonthaggi and Sale as they went into half time of their Elimination Final at Bairnsdale on Sunday.

Wonthaggi Power held the lead courtesy of a solid first quarter when they kickeed with the wind to the Paynesville end of the ground.

Jaxon Williams kicked the first half way through on the end of good lead up play by Jarryd Blair, Mitch Hayes and Ryan Sparkes in terrific form.

But it was some time before Noah Anderson could scramble through their next and that was all there was as Sale tightened the screws in defence and even threatened to score at the other end.

Sale had the wind in the second and managed a goal through big Brad Dessent, a great set shot from the angle but the Power defence, led by Jakeb Thomas, Isaac Chugg, Jye Gilmour and Fergus O'Connor held up well and it was actually the power which had more shots on goal, Aiden Lindsay taking two or three gettable shots for points and an out on the full and Hunter Tiziani going tantilisingly close to kicking one himself.

But as they went to half time there was only eight points between the sides, and anyone's to win.

Half time scores: Wonthaggi 2.5.17 to Sle 1.3.9.

Sale defender Jake Hutchins gets clear with Cooper McInnes in pursuit.
