Wonthaggi Croquet Pavilion officially open

2 min read

THE Wonthaggi Croquet Club now has a real home advantage with the completion of the new accessible and female friendly pavilion, thanks to the Allan Labor Government.

Member for Bass Coast Jordan Crugnale joined Bass Coast Shire Mayor Cr Clare Le Serve and club players to officially open the new building, made possible with a $400,000 investment through the Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.

Ms Crugnale acknowledged Bass Coast Shire for its contribution of almost $245,000 and the Wonthaggi Croquet Club for its outstanding contribution of $25,000.

The new pavilion replaces an old portable and features fully accessible light filled facilities including female friendly change rooms, office space, full kitchen, multi-purpose social space and a deck with views over the existing lawns. There’s also a new equipment storage shed.

The extra room and modern facilities make for a more welcoming environment for the club to host more women’s and men’s training and competition, also providing a great new venue for community gatherings and events.

“I am thrilled that this amazing club of active and energised members now has this new pavilion that is light filled, accessible, modern, female friendly and no doubt will inspire even more locals to join in the fun, train longer and compete at this quality facility and grounds,” said Ms Crugnale.

“Big thank you to President Gerrit Kool, Treasurer Paul Andrews, the committee, members, TS Constructions, Council and everyone involved - it is a great example of community at its best when we all come together to support our local clubs and organisations and turn a vision into a reality.”

‘Our club expresses its great appreciation of the support provided from our local MP, the State Government and Bass Coast Shire in enabling us to have such a beautiful, modern, and fit for purpose pavilion. Our members are so happy with our Clubhouse,” said Gerrit.

The Allan Labor Government’s investment has already delivered new pavilions at Wonthaggi Tennis Club and Phillip Island Croquet Club. These three projects combined were funded more than $1.7 million from the Victorian Government and were built by local company T.S Constructions.

From new sport pavilions to pitch lighting, investments like these provide high-quality and accessible facilities that allow Victorians to reap the benefits of sport and active recreation participation.

They are also about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, and improving the health, wellbeing, and social outcomes for Victorian communities.
