A FANTASTIC display of cars made the journey to Dalyston Recreation Reserve on Sunday where a huge team of volunteers put on a spectacular show, even if the rain dampened the final proceedings for the second annual Bass Coast Historical Automobile Club Show and Shine.
And it was awards galore with a mix of locals, regular car show faces and newbies in attendance.
Awards kicked off with the very special Dave Trotter Memorial American Classics, presented by Dave’s son, Jason, with a large display of American Classics on display.
“Family and friends have travelled (from near and far) to be here for the awards in honour of (dad),” Jason explained, noting his kids, grandkids and self had travelled from Queensland for the event.
“Seeing his old footy mates, and even the kids he coached back in the day (attend today), and there has been a lot of support from his friends too,” added Dave’s daughter Rachel.
Local Dan Huther won the Oldest Car with his blue Buick Special, whilst Best Original went to fellow club member and mate Ken Ballingall with his blue corvette. “Marilyn” the much loved ’68 Chevy
Impala won Best Presented for regular show and shine attendee Leigh Smith of Drouin in the Dave Trotter Memorial division.
“It’s been a good day,” BCHAC’s Brian Asbury said.
“There was a good turn up given the weather forecast,” BCHAC president Keith Tonkin added.
A variety of American cars appeared for the occasion in honour of the late Dave Trotter with old beauties arriving for judging and others simply to be on display.
The rain may have cut the event slightly shorter, but the display was thoroughly enjoyed by all throughout the morning with stall holders also in attendance.
“It’s run like clockwork thanks to the enormous number of volunteers today.”
Dalyston Football Netball Club had food and drinks in hand.
“It’s been a good day, the weather may have scared some people off, but the car club has done a good, professional job of organising today,” Dalyston Football Netball members, Andy Thomas,
Frank Angarane and Dave Bell (president) agreed.
“It’s a great effort by the cars who came out today and Bass Coast Historical Automobile Club who put it on,” AutoPro Wonthaggi and Cowes owner, and event sponsor, Gavin Coyne said.
“Without this effort we don’t have fun things like this (for car enthusiasts) in the shire.”
