Build connections and friendships at Myli this school holidays

1 min read

HOLIDAY fun is free at Myli (My Community Library) across Bass Coast and South Gippsland this winter school holidays with Literacy Librarian Jess Rigby hosting a drama sports program in Wonthaggi on Thursday morning.

The programs can help foster friendships and build a sense of belonging among the children. It also helps keep their minds active during the winter break and further develop social skills.

During the drama sports program, Jess challenged the children in a positive way, helping them to practice their listening skills, work on their patience as they listen to others and support their confidence as they touched on creative thinking.

The fun-filled morning made the library a little louder than usual; however, the space at the rear of the Wonthaggi library enabled the kids to use their voices and laugh with their peers. Together they participated in a variety of games that involved player engagement, they took part in acting challenges and had a lot of fun learning new skills.

The morning session was aimed at children aged 5+ with all kids welcome to take part in nine games, including a group walk, what are you doing, count to 21, whisper, zip, zap, zoom, fortunately/unfortunately, tooty ta, one less chair and people to people.

Focusing on key areas of development, Jess then sought feedback from the kids with Matilda Cahill, Rashi Sharma Timelsina and Taj all sharing that their favourite game of the day was count to 21 – a game of patience, teamwork and eye contact.

The Myli Library school holiday fun program is run over the course of the two-week break with all dates and activities available online. To book your place, talk to the Myli team on 5672 1875 or register online at myli.au/events.
