Expo offers job seekers a gateway to new careers

ON Thursday, 20 March 2025, the South Gippsland Jobs Expo will return to the Leongatha Memorial Hall, offering job seekers, career changers, and students a prime opportunity to connect with employers, industry experts, and training providers.

With approximately 40 exhibitors expected to participate, this free event is designed to be an essential hub for those looking to advance their careers.

The expo is hosted by the South Gippsland Shire Council in collaboration with Workforce Australia – Local Jobs Program, with the goal of directly linking job seekers to employment opportunities.

Attendees will have the chance to explore diverse career options across industries such as hospitality, transport and logistics, trades, healthcare, agriculture, and manufacturing. Additionally, emerging fields like digital marketing, along with professional services including law, accounting, and real estate, will be represented.

Darren Beggs, Gippsland’s employment facilitator for the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, emphasised the unique opportunity presented by the expo.

“If anyone is looking for a job, or a change of career, there are a multitude of different employers attending.”

Beyond job listings, the expo is also geared towards improving employability. The TAFE Gippsland Skills and Jobs Centre will provide free resume reviews and application assistance, ensuring candidates present themselves in the best possible light.

Engagement coordinator for the Skills and Jobs Centre at TAFE Gippsland, Andrea McNamara sees the event as a “fantastic opportunity for employers and those seeking employment to connect and to explore opportunities that are beneficial for both parties.”

Furthermore, industry professionals will be available to share insights on educational pathways through TAFE and university programs.

To make the most of the event, job seekers are encouraged to bring multiple copies of their resumes, valid ID for potential job applications, and dress professionally, as some businesses may hold on-the-spot interviews. Taking notes and collecting employer details will also be useful for follow-ups.

Feedback from past expos suggests that many attendees have secured interviews and apprenticeships through their participation.

For those eager to take their careers to the next level, the South Gippsland Jobs Expo could be the perfect stepping stone.

Running from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Leongatha Memorial Hall, this expo is open to anyone seeking new employment opportunities, career growth, or further training.
