Four new doctors at Korumburra Medical Centre

1 min read

THE KORUMBURRA Medical Centre (KMC) is proud to welcome four new doctors to their dedicated team of medical and nursing professionals.

Dr Slesha Amatya (GPT3) has been with the clinic for six months, following a six month rotation at the Leongatha Medical Clinic (LMC). Her interests include child and youth health, mental health, women’s health and chronic disease management.

Dr Patrick Halton (GPT3) began at KMC in August last year and has a special interest in chronic disease management, men’s health, preventative health and procedural medicine.

Both Dr Amatya and Dr Halton studied at ANU in Canberra and then worked in Tasmania, where they both discovered a love for regional health and subsequently came to South Gippsland.

Dr Rachael Sim (GPT4) studied at Monash University in Malaysia and came to Australia in 2018 where she decided to become a GP. Dr Sim will complete her registrar training this August and has been with the clinic for one year. Dr Sim is interested in children’s and women’s health, skin and palliative care.

Dr Kautilya Jaiswal (GPT2) studied at Deakin University in Geelong and worked in the emergency unit and intensive care at Monash Hospital. Dr Jaiswal is interested in men’s health, anaesthetics and palliative care. He has previously worked at LMC and will be with KMC for another six to twelve months.

The new doctors said they enjoy the supportive and inclusive team at KMC and the great relationships they have with colleagues, from their managers and supervisors to the nursing and administration staff.

Adding that working in regional health gives them the opportunity to form close relationships with their patients and their families, and build a holistic understanding of their lives to forge great health outcomes.

Korumburra Medical Centre now has eleven doctors and same day appointments are often available. A duty doctor is onsite for urgent medical appointments and also supports the Korumburra Hospital in emergencies.

KMC also offers skin clinic, women’s clinic, life health and smoking cessation programs, immunisations, chronic disease management and asthma education.
