1 min read

AFTER captivating children and families for 30 years, Alison Lester’s beloved book Magic Beach has been brought to life on screen, and it will be released locally in cinemas tomorrow.

Magic Beach is centered around Walkerville Beach, with its surrounding cliffs and the hills of Wilsons Prom’ seen in the distance; created by South Gippsland’s very own multi-award-winning local author and illustrator Alison Lester.

The film has been 20 years in the making and was directed by Robert Connolly (Paper Planes) and some of Australia’s leading animators.

“Filming in South Gippsland brought our cast and crew to this incredible region, employed locals and their businesses, and we were at all times welcomed by the wonderful communities in the region,” said Mr. Connolly.

The film takes the audience on a trip through a unique mix of live action, entwined with extraordinary, animated adventures that bring viewers to a dreamy seaside world where anything is possible.

Featuring timeless characters, Magic Beach is a captivating blend of reality and fantasy that inspires people of all ages to feel the sand beneath their toes and find wonder in the world around them.

“We are delighted to be releasing this cinema adaptation of Alison Lester’s classic celebration of the beach across Australia these summer holidays,” said Mr. Connoly.

Magic Beach will be playing at Stadium 4 Cinema in Leongatha from tomorrow and all other screenings can be found at www.madman.com.au/magic-beach.

The film was supported by the Victorian Government through VicScreen.
