Volunteers raise vital funds for Bass Coast Health

1 min read

THE Bass Coast Health (BCH) Ladies Auxiliary volunteers held their annual fete on Saturday morning raising funds for the Wonthaggi Hospital and the vital equipment required for the new wards.

Since the recent expansion of the Wonthaggi hospital, volunteers have made it their priority to work with the Bass Coast community – holding fundraisers to help better service the health of regional patients.

BCH volunteer Kaye of the Inverloch Fundraising Auxiliary said together we have handmade knitted scarves and beanies – known as the ‘happy hats’ for chemotherapy patients, we have also handcrafted birthday and special occasion cards to sell to the community.

“We are focused on raising donations for equipment for the cancer centre at BCH,” said Kaye.

Always welcoming new members to the Auxiliary - the inside stalls at the rear of the allied health centre was bustling with members of the community turning out to support the effortless work of the volunteers.

Debbie O’Donnell and Lyn Wadeson were selling raffle tickets for the San Remo Co-Op seafood prize pack, whilst Margaret and Anne held an additional raffle with donations from local businesses.

“The community support is wonderful,” said Margaret.

Margaret went on to explain that all the volunteers are passionate and dedicated to fitting the hospital with the fundamental equipment needed to service its patients.

On November 11 the BCH Inverloch Fundraising Auxiliary will be holding a Big November Dinner Auction, with good food and great music, showcasing the collectable art from the late Mr. Ron Sharp.

Gerry Surridge - who held the sausage sizzle at the annual fete alongside his fellow volunteers, despite fighting the torrential rain and damaging wind, said “the event is open for viewing now.”
