BASS Coast Shire is pleased to announce that Grind Projects has been awarded the contract for the construction of skate park and new play space at Kilcunda Foreshore.
Construction is expected to commence this week.
The construction of the new skate park and playspace is in partnership with the State Government through Sport and Recreation Victoria, who have contributed $250,000 towards the $720,532 budget.
The project will see a new skate bowl constructed where the existing play space is located, whilst a new play space will be installed to its immediate northwest.
Features of the project include:
• The skate bowl will feature a roll in for beginners, a deep end for more advanced skaters, slappy kerb, water fall and pier 7 ledge. The facility also has a shelter with seating and accessible ramp entrance from both the rail trail and the foreshore sides.
• The play space will have a natural feel including rock carvings along with traditional play elements for climbing, sliding and swinging. There will also be an accessible rubber under surface linked to a carousel and basket swing that ensures safe play.
• Landscaping works including drainage and a dry creek bed which acts as a swale, whilst the existing Norfolk Island Pine which creates shade will be retained. Some minor vegetation removal is required before substantial re-planting of trees and garden beds will be completed to act as landscape buffers around the play and skate areas.
• Accessible concrete pathways will be installed throughout the space and will create an uninterrupted path of travel from the main entrances (car park and rail trail) to the skate park, playspace, as well as nearby toilet block and barbecue shelter. The transitions to these activity area’s will all be step free.
• User amenities such as a water fountain, bins and bike racks will be installed.
The works will involve the need for heavy machinery and equipment to be used, including noisy works such as demolition, retaining wall construction, and use of trucks for removal or delivery of materials to the site.
As a result, access to the area will be restricted, and appropriate traffic and pedestrian control measures will be put in place to ensure public safety.
The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of June, while the skate bowl is scheduled for completion in late May.
