INVERLOCH’S Xavier Lindsay has already made a significant impact in his first season with the Melbourne Demons but early in Saturday’s match against the Gold Coast Suns at the MCG, Lindsay came up after a contest clutching his knee
The Number 11 draft prospect had already become a Dees’ favourite after two eye-catching games in the red and blue but went down heavily in a marking contest, on the wing, against Suns’ opponent Bailey Humphrey who reportedly landed on Lindsay’s leg causing the young Demon to go to ground.
The teenager was helped off the field and immediately taken down to Melbourne's rooms, with the club soon making their sub change.
After suffering a PLC injury in the latter part of the 2024 season, and missing the final series with both Gippsland Power and the Leongatha Parrots, it did not look good for one of the season’s best performed rookies.
But, after going down to the Suns in convincing fashion, coach Simon Goodwin revealed the club was hopeful Lindsay had not suffered a long-term setback.
“We're not 100 per cent sure where that sits, we'll have to get a scan on that," Goodwin told reporters in the post-match.
"We're feeling it's not too bad.
"It's too early to tell (whether it's an ACL). It's not quite clear from a medical perspective. Usually, you get some pretty good information on that straight away,” according to Mitch Keating on Zero Hanger.
“We're unsure, so we need to go and get that scanned."
The AFL’s Josh Gabelich reported that Lindsay will undergo a scan on his left knee on Sunday to determine the severity of the injury.
The Demons were unable to rule out a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament on Saturday, but are hopeful the Gippsland Power product has escaped a long-term injury.
