Korumburra-Bena suffers brutal loss to triumphant Bunyip

1 min read

A HARD day for the players and supporters of Korumburra-Bena's Fourths grade, losing to a team who hadn’t won all year but came out hungry for their first win of the season.

Korumburra-Bena played slow and dumped the ball into their forward with no real aim and it came out with ease and not much pressure on the Bunyip defense. This led to them kicking three of the first four goals, to leave the Giants on the backfoot early.

It only got worse for them when in the second quarter as the game opened Bunyip scored the only 2two goals of the quarter and let only one point go the other way.

Korumburra-Bena couldn’t stem the bleeding or get themselves going in the second half as the opposition’s score only kept ticking over and the margin grew significantly to the point where it was at 42 points at the final break.

What really hurt Korumburra-Bena all day was the lack of quality entries inside 50, they didn’t kick to their leading forwards and even that there was a lack of.

Relentless they were not as Bunyip wanted to end the game the way they started kicking the last two and going home first the first time this season as the victors by an impressive 59 points.

The standout performers were the only two goal scorers for Bunyip in Albert McAuley kicking an outstanding five goals and Callum Kennedy who got his equal career high with four going through the big sticks.

On the other side of the field, it was the Giants captain Tanner Walker who scored one of only two goals with the other coming from an electric forward pocket Indie Cameron.

The standout performers came from Centre-Half back Dylan Parry and Korumburra-Bena's vice-captain and Centre clearance beast Bryce Riddell. Hopefully they can bounce back and improve their record when they play Toordin-Dalmore at Toordin on the July 29.
