MPs wave off seawall

1 min read

OUR local member of parliament, Jordan Crugnale, and her minister have now made it clear that they will not permit any form of seawall to be constructed to save the Inverloch Surf Lifesaving Club building. (Sentinel-Times page 6, 01/10/2024)

Those who know the Inverloch surf beach precinct will agree it is unlikely that surf club building will survive another storm surge event like that which we witnessed a few weeks ago.  Everyone can see that sand nourishment on its own is ineffective against storm surge events.

So now that Jordan and her minister have confirmed that retreat is the only option that they will consider, it is beholden on them, along with Bass Coast Shire Council, to explain what their retreat timeline is, and what plans - if any - they have for a future surf lifesaving club building in Inverloch.
