A CHILD building a sandcastle on the beach has no understanding of the futility of this exercise. The only difference between this and the process of sand replacement is the $3 million it will cost.
Last Friday, l had a relaxing time over a glass of wine and a bowl of chips at the RACV cocktail bar watching the four-metre plus waves break over Petrel Rock. It dawned on me how effective several hundred metres of such a barrier would be in taking the power out of the waves that are causing the beach erosion.
It’s not a new idea. It has been done many times before here and overseas. So, what’s the problem?
