Please explain? Something very odd is occurring with the language of civic street signage in the region (images supplied). Street signs, I believe, fall into two categories: directions and legal speeds (safety). However, we have signs that inform road users of emotional states (traffic calming devices), signs for up-coming sign posted roads (road ahead) and lavishly informed of a speed change/intersection (side road activated).
Nothing has been activated, aside from some flashing lights. The side road is always open for use. I believe the ‘side road activated’ intersections cost many $100k’s of ratepayer money. A dangerous intersection sign and a permanent speed change sign (70) would be clear and have saved tonnes of dollars.
There’s probably a team of people that come up with these poorly messaged and often unnecessary signs. Perhaps, close that department, and move them to the permit approval department to speed up that much needed area of council processes.
The safety issue on our roads is simply that many people don’t follow the speed limit signs – even the signs that make sense.
