Big picture decision as Jenny calls it a day

THERE’S this bloke from India who inscribed the names of 168 countries on a single grain of rice. Who knew?

Well, Jenny Rowe of Picture This Framed in Korumburra knew.

In fact, among the things she has been asked to frame or mount over the years has been a single grain of rice with an inscription, and a jockey’s saddle and boots and everything in between, from paintings, prints, photos, to memorabilia, keepsakes and curios, whatever came through the door.

“We bought the business from a bloke who had started it 12 months earlier. I did two frames with him, and I was on my way,” said Jenny this week as she prepares for retirement later this month.

“I did some courses in Melbourne and taught myself along the way… that was 23 and a half years ago in the shop (in Commercial Street, Korumburra, “Jenny Pictured This Framed”) and five years at home.

“I shared with a florist at first, Joan Wardle and then Jen Francis.

“Julie Sullivan worked with me for 10 years and I’ve had quite a few others come in and do various things. Allan cut glass and did the backing.

“But the time has come. We tried to sell without success, but we want to go on and do some other things now.”

The business, unique in South Gippsland, will be sorely missed as indicated by the amount of work that’s still been coming in the door.

“We’re just trying to finish it all off before we go,” said Jenny, agreeing to an extension of time to get most of it done.

“It’s been great. The customers and the people I have worked with have been great but it’s time to go.”

Jenny had a celebration in the shop last Saturday, but the doors will close one last time on Saturday, November 30.

Korumburra and your clients will miss you!

Meanwhile, the sale continues, everything must go.

Jenny Rowe, who operates Picture This Framed in Korumburra, still has three weeks work ahead of her before she closes the door for the last time on Saturday, November 30.
