SOUTH Gippsland Water has announced the successful resolution of the recent Boil Water Advisory in Fish Creek.
It is recommended that customers flush internal taps for two minutes to draw fresh water into their internal plumbing.
Managing Director, Robert Murphy, extended his sincerest appreciation to all customers in Fish Creek for their patience and cooperation, as well as all individuals at South Gippsland Water and in the wider community who played a vital role in managing and overcoming this challenge.
“Over the past 24 hours, our dedicated teams worked tirelessly, demonstrating an extraordinary level of commitment. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who contributed and put in extra hours to address the issue as promptly as possible.
“Ultimately, my biggest thanks go to our customers in Fish Creek. Your quick response and acceptance are greatly appreciated. It was heartwarming to see the community come together and to help each other out – especially those who reached out to neighbours, friends and family to check that they had received the messages and were okay,” Mr Murphy said.
South Gippsland Water is committed to maintaining the highest standards of water quality, according to Department of Health regulations and the actions taken reflect this.
As part of South Gippsland Water's commitment to service excellence, the lifting of the Boil Water Advisory will trigger a $10,000 community grant under their Guaranteed Service Levels. More information will be shared over the coming weeks.
The alert was triggered after one sample detected levels of E.coli in in the system on Wednesday, a type of bacteria that indicates potential contamination. Other samples taken on the same day showed no indication of E.coli.
South Gippsland Water spent the following 24 hours flushing the Fish Creek system and conducting extensive testing to resolve the issue.
According to a statement from South Gippsland Water, "Extensive inspections of our assets have not found any possible ingress point for contamination."
