HUNDREDS of people arrived at their local café for their morning coffee fix today, Thursday, February 27, only to find the “cash only” sign posted in many shop windows.
According to reports on social media, those cafés using the Square eftpos payment exchange couldn’t take card payments and had to revert to cash!
But who has cash these days? Maybe we should still carry an emergency note or two!
Darren Gardiner at The Exchange Café in Wonthaggi was one of those affected but they were back up by about 8am, in time for the morning rush hour. But some people missed their morning fix all the same.
He said most people get their takeaway coffee by swiping their card or smartphone so it’s an inconvenience when the eftpos or internet goes down.
Hairdressers and other small business operators also use square.
