Grass and scrub fire in San Remo under control

THE CFA San Remo Brigade responded to a grass and scrub fire on Moondara Drive at about 11.54am in San Remo on Thursday, February 13.

Both San Remo and Phillip Island reportedly turned out but it is understood the small grass fire had been extinguished by the time they arrived. However, out of an abundance of caution, on a day of Total Fire Ban, locals were pleased to see the brigades on the scene.

It is understood that sparks from an angle grinder may have started the small fire which was put out with a hose of extinguisher.

From the CFA ‘Can I Can’t I’ webpage: Can I carry out activities including: welding, grinding, charring, soldering or gas cutting… etc? No!

“These activities are banned on Total Fire Ban Days. In limited circumstances, CFA, DEECA or FRV may issue a permit on Total Fire Ban Days. These permits are issued by CFA, DEECA or FRV depending on the location of the activity. They cannot be issued by Municipal Fire Prevention Officers.
