IN A warmly received announcement by local football fans, former Wonthaggi Power high-flying forward Jack Hutchinson has been taken as Pick 3 in the AFL’s Mid-Season Draft on Wednesday night, May 29.
The 190-centimetre forward, who has been prompting headlines since making his VFL debut for Collingwood earlier this year, has been picked up by West Coast Eagles.
His coach at Wonthaggi and the man credited most with helping Hutchinson make his first step towards the big time, Jarryd Blair, said it was great news.
"Wonthaggi Football Netball Club is thrilled for Jack and the Hutchinson family. Jack is an outstanding young man and has done a power of work to get himself drafted and take the next step towards achieving his dream of playing AFL football. We can't wait to support Jack on the big stage and have no doubt His achievements to date have inspired so many in our community.
"Well done and good luck Hutch," said Blair.
Hutchinson is set to make the big move west after the weekend but he won’t be on his own out there with three other Gippslanders on the Eagles’ list including Inverloch-Kongwak’s Archer Reid, Maffra’s Coby Burgiel and Drouin’s Ryan Maric.
While Hutchinson’s high-marking has caught the eye, he’s also pacey and effective further up the ground and might he tried in a number of roles by the developing West Coast squad.
