At this early stage in the investigation, it’s believed a man who resides at the address has fired shots at detectives.

They returned fire and were not injured during the incident.

Those living in the Dumbalk North area were told to stay indoors until police declared the incident safe.

It has been reported  that the alleged offender was shot by police but escaped capture until 5pm. Police advised local farmers and residents to stay inside and lock their doors.

A massive police presence was called in and roadblocks were set up right around the area with no one allowed through until the incident was declared safe.

A 56-year-old man was located injured at the property on Foster-Mirboo Road just after 5pm.

He was transferred to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Armed Crime Squad detectives are investigating.
